SUCCESSION AND CAREER PLANNING

Order now

All organisations , whether in the private or public sectors, need to be able to find people with the right skills to fill key and top leadership jobs. In a climate of growing skills shortages and lack of confidence in the leadership potential of the existing workforce, interest in succession planning has revived. Modern succession planning has a broader vision and close links to wider talent management practices.

The course will give participants the skills to ensure that there is a healthy pipeline of potential leaders in their organization by identifying potential senior managers and planning their career.

   Day 1
  • Identifying future potential leaders to fill key positions
  • Coverage – different models of succession planning
  • Broadening experience by lateral moves
  • Roles, not jobs – clustering jobs by role, function and level to develop generic skills
  • Competencies
   Day 2
  • Link to strategy and business planning
  • IThe role of HR
  • Balance between individuals and organisations
  • Openness, fairness and diversity
  • Insiders and outsiders

During the two day programme, participants will learn the techniques and build the skills that will allow them to:

  • Determine what employee movement needs to occur
  • Focus on management and development efforts of key employees
  • Link the Human Resources Plan with the Strategic Business Plan
  • Identify training needs both on an individual and company wide basis
  • Promote an overall ‘bench strength’ analysis (does your company have the right mix of people to promote and long term continuity managers?)
  • Forecast recruiting needs for the future
