Used extensively by the US Military in WW2, Situational Judgement Tests (SJT’s) are now widely used in business to assess how an individual approaches situations encountered in the workplace. Their advantages are that they use measures that directly assess job relevant behaviors, show reduced levels of adverse impact and practice will not enhance performance.
hfi has produced Situational Judgement Tests for a wide range of clients, and have also developed a bespoke questionnaire to test Hotel General Managers’ situational judgement. Using critical incident interviews with 16 GMs covering the themes of main activities, key challenges, tough decisions, key people, key performance indicators, lessons learned, stepping up to GM level and advice to new GMs, hfi was able to develop a 45 item questionnaire based on a consistent set of ideals for the business.
The validity study involved 99 GMs completing and commenting the questionnaire. Of the 45 items, 30 were selected for the final questionnaire. The individual GM results from the pilot were correlated with their scores on a previous set of 360s that the hotel chain and hfi had run. This achieved an r value of .38 and p<0.0001, which is an excellent correlation.
As with all our work, what sets hfi apart is how we can provide quantitative data for even the most subjective of concepts. Having this quantitative data is invaluable for your business.
Your hotel has experienced some significant changes over the last three months and Team Members are expected to deliver more with less resources. Your team is slow to adopt these changes; many people seem to be carrying on working as they have always done.
